Bryson DeChambeau has travelled the globe, competing on a variety of tours, and has played some of the finest courses in the world. So when he names a favourite hole or course, it comes from a place of genuine experience.

Last week, DeChambeau was spotted watching the Walker Cup at Cypress Point Club on California’s Monterey Peninsula. His presence there wasn’t just another appearance; it said something about how he carries himself these days.

Now 31, DeChambeau took time out to support the American team. And that matters – not just to fans but to other players too.

His path back to popularity hasn’t just been down to his golf. He’s become more open with fans online, and people have started to see him in a new light.

Even though his qualifying events were limited to just eight majors since the start of 2024, he still earned his place automatically.

And given that access, you’d expect him to have strong opinions on where stands out above the rest.

DeChambeau’s played everywhere from Augusta National to Pebble Beach, not to mention a long list of top links courses across Britain and Ireland. So, when he names a particular course and hole as his favourite, it carries some weight.

In a video shared by the USGA on social media platform X, DeChambeau picked Cypress Point as his favourite course in the world and singled out one hole he absolutely loves.

He said: “This by the way, is my favourite golf hole in the entire world – number nine at Cypress Point.

“So it’s a par four, driveable hole. Most of the time I would drive it, but ultimately it’s the greatest risk-reward hole in all of golf I believe.”

“Normally you hit a six-iron, seven-iron, lay up, but in my case I’d bomb it on there.”

Cypress Point is frequently included among the best courses anywhere. It regularly features near the top of global rankings and has hosted major amateur events like the Walker Cup.

The ninth at Cypress isn’t just famous because DeChambeau likes it; plenty of other players also rate it among their favourites for its design and challenge.

What to know about Cypress Point and its ninth hole

Cypress Point is an exclusive, members-only club with an initiation fee reportedly set at $250,000. Playing there requires either a membership or an invitation from someone who is.

Like Augusta National, mobile phones are completely banned on the grounds. Rangefinders aren’t permitted either.

For guests, tee times are strict – you have to arrive between 7:00 and 7:15 am, and rounds need to be completed within four hours.

Only players with single-digit handicaps are allowed to use the back tees. The ninth hole at Cypress Point, DeChambeau’s favourite, is a short par four playing just 289 yards.

The hole bends slightly left and is heavily protected by large bunkers. With mountains and dunes as its backdrop, the ninth hole stands out as one of golf’s most scenic par fours, making it easy to see why DeChambeau holds it in such high regard.
