A simple post-round interview at the Masters has the internet talking on Monday in the wake of Rory McIlroy's first Masters win.
The Northern Irishman won his first green jacket, becoming the first golfer to complete a career grand slam since Tiger Woods. He defeated Justin Rose in the first hole of a sudden-death playoff after missing a putt to win it on the 18th.
His final round partner, LIV Golf's Bryson DeChambeau, told reporters on Sunday that McIlroy "did not talk to me once all day."
DeChambeau finished fifth at 7-under, having entered the final round at 10-under trailing his partner McIlroy by two strokes. According to the American golfer, their interactions were all business with the $4.2 million first-place prize on the line.
"He wouldn't talk to me," DeChambeau claimed.

The clip of the interview posted by Golf.com racked up over 1.5 million views on X by Monday morning.
The two golfers' relative popularity showed, as many fans got on DeChambeau's case despite his claim that McIlroy was less than friendly.
"Maybe Bryson should have been more like Rory," said one popular response on X. "Rory was playing the biggest round of his life."
I like Bryson but man why act so smug about this? You don’t have to talk to your playing partner during the round if you’re locked in. Tiger didn’t talk to anyone either.

"Oh dear, please don't be such a poor loser, Bryson," replied a fan. "Did you try to open a conversation with Rory?"
"Notice he did not answer the question on if he tried to initiate a conversation," added another.
Many golf fans also pointed to a handshake between McIlroy and DeChambeau shown on the CBS broadcast that suggested they at least interacted once on Sunday, undermining the credibility of DeChambeau's comments.
"Post round yesterday Bryson seemed downright giddy he was playing with Rory today," said a critic on X. "Didn’t go his way and he looks petty now."
DeChambeau was also targeted for his relationship with LIV Golf, the rival tour of the PGA backed by Saudi financing that gave DeChambeau a reported $125 million contract, which ends in 2026. He was still invited to the Masters, a PGA event, based on previous performances, including a top-six finish in 2024.
"LIV guys didn’t have it in them to play four competitive rounds," quipped a fan on X. "Too much for them. They were all probably too tired to talk anyway."
That Bryson interview was one of the more universally hated things I’ve seen in a while. The whole timeline had the same reaction

It is certainly not uncommon for competitive athletes to get in the zone, especially in the final round of a major tournament. The firestorm DeChambeau faced on social media after the Masters went further in proving that when it came to the final pairing at Augusta National, McIlroy was the people's champ.
