With the 2024 Masters just mere days away, this was the last thing Cameron Smith wanted. The LIV Golfer suffered a major health setback at the LIV Golf Miami event as he came down with an illness. This forced him to withdraw from the tournament at the Trump Doral Course.

The Australian international has been under tremendous pressure in recent days due to the upcoming Olympics. He recently admitted that he was desperate to be part of the Olympic squad in Paris and needed to perform better at the majors.

According to reports, the Rippers GC captain has gone down with some food poisoning. He did well during the start of the day but started to struggle as the day went on. The 2022 Open Championship winner fired a score of 3-over 75 during the first round on Friday.

New Zealand golfer Ben Campbell would later take his spot on the roster. This marked his first appearance on LIV Golf. He is currently 11th in this year’s International Series standings and even beat Smith at the 2023 Hong Kong Open by one stroke.

Will Cameron Smith miss the Masters due to his health setback?

Following his withdrawal from the LIV Golf Miami event, the big question in the minds of fans is will Cameron Smith miss the Masters due to his health setback. Ripper GC’s high performance director and Smith’s conditioning coach Nic Catterall has given an answer regarding this.

As per Catterall, the 30-year-old will be fine for the Masters. He claimed that Smith is currently lacking the energy to play and is thus unfit but he will be ready just in time for the first major of the year.

Cam will be fine for the Masters, but at the moment the illness has him lacking energy and unfit to play. Nic Catterall on Cameron Smith as per Australian Golf Digest.

This words from Catterall gives the fans a huge relief. The Masters will be an important tournament for Smith as he will be attempting to earn some OWGR points which would improve his rankings and help him in his quest to be selected for the Olympics team.

Smith will be one of the 13 LIV golfers who will be playing at the Augusta National next week. While he might have not won a green jacket yet unlike some of his tour members, his record in this major has been good.

In his five appearances, he has made the cut in all attempts and has three top 10 finishes including being tied for second and third in 2020 and 2022 respectively. Last year though he finished T34 here, which turned out to be his worst performance in the four majors.
