Charlie Woods, the son of golf legend Tiger Woods, won his first tournament in the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA). On Wednesday, Charlie Woods shot a six-under 66 in the final round of the Team TaylorMade Invitational.

This was a big win for Woods, who defeated some of the top amateur players in the world. The 16-year-old already has wins on his resume, placing first in the 14-15-year-old category at the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour’s Major Championship in June 2023. Later that year, Woods won the Last Chance Regional golf tournament.

It looks like Charlie Woods is on his way to having a very successful golf career. Unfortunately, he will face a lot of scrutiny as he gets older because fans and critics will compare him to his father. In 2022, Tiger Woods appeared on the Another Golf Podcast and talked about wanting the media to stop with the comparisons.

Tiger Woods says Charlie Woods is ‘his own person’

“Don’t compare him to me, he’s not me, he’s Charlie, he’s going to be his own person, whichever road he goes down,” Tiger Woods said, per GolfMagic. “He will go down his own road and create his own path, and that to me as a father is so important for me to provide that environment. Whichever path he goes down, I just want him to be the best at.”

The elder Woods also discussed how his son will never be his best friend but will always be his father. “I told him a long time ago, and this is a life lesson my Dad gave me, and I said ‘Son, you will never be my friend, okay, I will always be friendly, but I will always be your Dad. As a Dad, my responsibility is to always give you the advice and the impetus in the environment to learn and grow and prosper and as a sounding board, and for you to learn the best decisions of life, especially when I’m not there anymore. That’s my job,'” Woods stated.

“So I said ‘Don’t ever call me your friend, I’m not, I’m your Dad, call me Pops… he calls me other words and that’s with me fine too, but I just want him to understand that and I think that’s a responsibility as a parent.”
