After an inconsistent season, Collin Morikawa details the loft changes and putting experiments he hopes will help him return to top form in 2026.

He did record top-10 finishes at the Masters (T-6), PGA Championship (T-4), and Rocket Mortgage Classic (T-7), but those highlights were few and far between.

Collin Morikawa isn’t a player who accepts poor play without making adjustments. He recognises changes are needed heading into 2026 and spoke about what he plans to focus on:

Morikawa explains iron adjustments after conversations with Scheffler and Rahm

In the early part of his career, Morikawa built a reputation around his precise iron play, ranking third in strokes gained approach on the PGA Tour in 2025. Still, that hasn’t stopped him from making some changes.

The 28-year-old has made adjustments to his setup in search of even more consistency. During an appearance on Fore Play, Morikawa said he’s been listening to feedback from players like Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm to sharpen up his approach game even further.

“Crazy enough, I just added two degrees to every iron as of yesterday. Two degrees of loft,” he said.

“I’ve been under-spinning everything. Spin is the most important thing to control. The best players, whenever I’ve talked to a guy like Scottie or Rahm was really good at it — spin — if you know how you’re spinning it, you know how far the ball’s going to go.

Morikawa’s putting has been a weak link in his game for some time now. He ranked 153rd on the PGA Tour for strokes gained on the greens, a stat that clearly doesn’t align with someone aiming to end a lengthy winless streak.

Speaking again to Fore Play, Morikawa explained why he’s still experimenting with different grips in search of something more consistent. “No [I’m not a full-time claw putter], I don’t know what I am honestly,” he said.
