Since joining LIV Golf, Dustin Johnson has admitted to taking it easier on the league. He is content with where he stands in LIV and has stated that he doesn’t “intend to play more golf than I currently do, that’s for sure.” This has led to criticism from fans and other pro players. Most are wondering if Johnson’s glory is behind him. Another part of that criticism has come in recently, and that is that Johnson has yet to win an event this year. If that continues through the remainder of the season, it means that Johnson’s ten-year streak of at least one win per season has come to an end.
Dustin Johnson has had quite a record in the past ten years. Back in 2016, he made the No. 1 position in the OWGR. His career was so successful that he managed to land himself a comfortable sponsorship with TaylorMade. A deal that has only recently came to an end after eighteen years. Most importantly, since 2015, Johnson hasn’t gone a single year without a win.
For most of Johnson’s time with LIV Golf, that record has not wavered until recently. There’s a reason why LIV wanted Johnson; he earned his star power a long time ago. The main issue he faced after joining LIV is the same thing other LIV players have faced: suspensions from other leagues and the lack of OWGR points. It wasn’t until last year that people took note of Johnson’s performance. To them, it looked like he was starting to buckle. He has missed the cut for the first two majors of the year. Although he did bring himself back up for the next two. At one point, there was even speculation that Johnson’s career was coming to an end in the near future.
In the face of these claims, Dustin Johnson seems fairly unbothered. He wasn’t even aware of what people were saying. When asked about his thoughts on the matter, Johnson responded as follows.
“I mean, I probably wouldn’t have thought about it until you just asked me. Obviously, I’ve got two chances here, this week and next week, so we’ll see what happens. I’m playing a few more events in the fall, so the year is not over yet.“
Johnson is being fairly optimistic about the remainder of the season. He has landed a few top ten positions during the 2025 season. Four times to exact since March, and during the Chicago event, he finished T25.
Dustin Johnson is right that the year is not over yet. Sure, opportunities to score a win for the year are waning, but they are still there. At any of the remaining events, Johnson can easily trounce the competition. Johnson has even alluded to the idea of playing on a separate tour for the fall. With that, more windows of opportunity have opened for him. Dustin Johnson has the skill, and all he needs is a little push to keep his winning streak going.
