Ex Red Raider Star Finishes Strong at The Sentry
Jim Dedmon-USA TODAY Sports

Former Texas Tech standout Ludvig Aberg started the year strong at the first event of the year, tying for fifth place at 24-under par at The Sentry at the Plantation Course in Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii last week.

After a long and injury-riddled 2024, Ludvig Aberg started the year off with a strong performance. Aberg admitted that he arrived in Hawaii with a little rust - and it showed - with a lackluster start of 69 and 70 leaving him at the bottom part of the 54-player field.

The talented Swede bounced back with rounds of 65 and 64 over the weekend, propelling him all the way to the top part of the leaderboard.

Although his second appearance at Kapalua produced a better finish than his inaugural start in 2024, the 25-year-old hopes his good start will lead to a better overall finish than 2024. After missing almost three full months in the fall with injuries, the determined Swede hopes to maintain his health in preparation for the Ryder Cup in September in New York.

The balance of a full PGA Tour season can be an adjustment for many young players looking to make their mark in professional golf.

Learning new courses, travel and the rigors of life on the road seems to be just a formality for Åberg as his 2024 campaign only yielded two missed cuts in 20 events.

His T6 finish at the Hero Challenge in December confirmed the young superstar was ready to take on a full PGA Tour season. Look for Åberg to continue his great play in 2025 and capture the second PGA Tour win of his career.
