Jim “Bones” Mackay will no longer be on the bag. Instead, he’ll be wearing a bag.
NBC Sports announced in a conference call with the media that Mackay has rejoined the network as a course announcer. He has signed a multiyear deal with the network and will be part of their broadcast team for the US Open next week.
Mackay is best known for being the long-time caddie of Phil Mickelson. The two parted ways in 2017. Mackay then joined NBC and served as a course announcer for them until 2021, when he was hired to caddie for Justin Thomas.
Thomas announced in March that he and Mackay had split. Just a few months later, Mackay is back with the Peacock to cover golf for them.
The 59-year-old Mackay is in line to cover several tournaments for NBC this year. His schedule is expected to become more established next year.
