Jon Rahm finished Saturday as one of the leaders of the 2026 PGA Championship ahead of what should be an entertaining final round. The two-time major champion shot a three-under-par 67 to join the group of leaders.
As great as his final run was, not everything was sweet for Rahm. The LIV Golf League captain didn’t hide his frustration on the seventh hole on Thursday. He was unhappy with his approach and took a swing in frustration, hitting an elderly volunteer in the face.
As soon as he realized, Rahm approached the man and offered his apology. More than that, he expressed his regret over his actions.
After the incident, Rahm explained what went wrong during that moment.
“I got a flyer on my second shot that went long,” Rahm said, per ESPN. “It’s not a good spot. Just out of frustration, I tried to make an air swing, just over the grass, and I wasn’t looking. [I] took a divot, and unfortunately, I hit a volunteer.”
- “I couldn’t feel any worse,” He added. “That’s why I was there apologizing. I need to somehow track him down to give him a present because that’s inexcusable and for something that could be completely avoidable. Whether it was my intention or not, it was just not good.”
He has a clear shot at winning the tournament. The competition won’t be easy, but Rahm enters the final round with solid rhythm.
