Former major winner Davis Love III is recovering from open-heart surgery. Jim Nantz of CBS made the announcement during the final round coverage of the Farmer’s Insurance Open on Saturday. The surgery was performed at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. It was planned and Love III is recovering quite well.
Love told Jim Nantz the procedure was to fix a “leaky valve” that was discovered 10 years ago. Love, 60 years old, is a 21-time winner on the PGA Tour. His only major victory came in the 1997 PGA Championship. Love also won The Players Championship twice (1992 and 2003).
In the majors, Love has done pretty well over the course of his career. He made 62 of 101 cuts, with six Top 10 performances coming at both Augusta National and The British Open. He also had five Top 10s in the US Open, to go along with four Top 10 finishes in the PGA Championship.
