Greg Norman's days as LIV Golf CEO appear to be numbered

Greg Norman's status as the CEO of LIV Golf has been something of a mystery since the proposed merger between his breakaway league and the PGA Tour was announced in early June. And now, thanks to bombshell revelations in this week's Senate hearing, we now know that there was a side proposal to remove the Shark from his post if the merger is to take place.

The proposal was reportedly never signed, but there is still no word from Norman — he is absent from the Senate hearing — or any indication that his job is safe.

So where exactly does Norman stand now?

Norman was one of the main faces of the Saudi Arabia-funded circuit when the league prepped to launch in 2022. (You could argue that Phil Mickelson was the other figurehead for LIV Golf at that time.) The animosity the Aussie had toward the PGA Tour and commissioner Jay Monahan was made very public — and also took place behind closed doors as was revealed during Tuesday's hearing in an email Norman sent Monahan in 2022 about banning players who played in LIV Golf events.

Of course, things look quite different roughly a year-and-a-half later. While a bevy of top-tier talent such as Brooks Koepka and Cam Smith defected, LIV Golf's rocky sophomore season has seen Norman shrink from public view. It didn't help that some of the world's best golfers, mainly Tiger Woods, called for Norman to resign in order for the PGA Tour and LIV to someday coexist — and that was long before the proposal for the two sides to join forces.

Now to reiterate, the proposal to remove Norman as CEO was not signed. But it does look like his job position could be eliminated if an agreement is reached between the rival golf leagues. And since Norman isn't in Washington D.C. to testify, there is even more mystery surrounding his job status.

There's no denying, however, that his days atop the LIV Golf throne appear to very much be numbered.
