Addressing the media after her round, the 23-year-old highlighted how precision iron shots and patience were critical in her opening scorecard, resulting in a brilliant 5-under 67.

“I think having the mixing about along the way, maybe some challenging course, some makable courses along the ways, it’s better,” Thitikul explained regarding the tour schedule.

The difficult course setting forced players to avoid aggressive wedge shots and scramble for par.

A Standard Set by Jin Young Ko 

This layout definitely has a degree of difficulty that contrasts with previous performances, especially the victory of Jin Young Ko in 2021 at the same venue.

When Thitikul was informed about the 21-under-par score that Ko made, she looked surprised and even asked, “Are they changing the course? Are they renovating the course? What did she do, 21-under par?”

“Oh, she’s just d*** good,” Thitikul remarked with a laugh, acknowledging the gap between that historic performance and the tough conditions she faced during her morning round.

As Ko was able to get a 21-under score, Thitikul thinks that a different situation will occur this time around, saying, “I think 18 or 19 you can already hoist the trophy.”

With cold temperatures and potential rain forecast for the weekend, Thitikul must now maintain her patience to navigate the remaining three rounds successfully.
