LIV Golf has a lot of star power behind it.  That is no secret, that was the initial draw for the league as a way to get off the ground.  When the league started, it sent out many generous offers for the top players in the world.  It has been a double-edged sword for the players involved.  On one hand, they are set for life, and all they have to do is play for LIV.  On the other hand, they have been walled off from other long-established leagues like the PGA.  The list of golfers who received an offer from that league is long, and recently Justin Rose revealed that he has also received an offer.  He also revealed why he rejected it.

The LIV Golf Offer

The exact details of the offer Justin Rose received are vague, but they most likely align with what other players received.  The deal was likely a five-year contract like the others.  It also most likely had a very generous sign-on bonus, something that LIV Golf is moving away from in its contracts.  Rose received the offer in 2022 and has declined that offer.

Why Did Justin Rose Decline The Offer?

The reason why Rose declined the offer to join the league is simple.  He wasn’t sure what it would mean for his future career prospects.  Rose was worried that moving to this new league would hurt his chances of winning majors.  He has had the goal of winning more majors since he was just twelve years old.  He hasn’t won a major since the US Open back in 2013, but that hasn’t stopped him from trying his best and being within reach so many times.  That includes this year’s Master Tournament, when Rory McIlroy wonRose went on to elaborate on one important detail of the offer.

“It didn’t offer me the opportunity to play in majors,”  Rose said.  “I’m still not really guaranteed to be in majors forevermore.  You have got to earn your way in this game.  That’s what I like about it.  There is nothing given out here; you have got to earn everything, and I felt like I needed that challenge and that environment to keep pushing me.”

Rose went on to say that winning a major was far more valuable to him than any of the reward money.  As lucrative as that contract was, Rose was in it for the glory.

Justin Rose And His PGA Future

In the same interview which Rose revealed the offer he rejected, he made one thing clear.  He held no ill will towards any of his friends who took the offer.  He, of course, misses playing with them like everyone else.  As for his time in the PGA, he is currently in the second event of the 2025 FedEx Cup.  The BMW Championship is underway, and he is eager to make it all the way.  With how close he has been to winning another major, Rose has said he is happy with where he is.  Rose is not looking to give up the major dream anytime soon.
