The Arnold Palmer Invitational at the iconic Bay Hill Club & Lodge is renowned for being among the most prestigious events on the PGA Tour. But it's also a reminder of the incredible impact 'The King' had on the game of golf internationally and locally in the Orlando, Florida area.
Despite all his accomplishments and incredible feats on the golf course, the legendary Arnold Palmer was perhaps best known for his charitable work, constantly giving back to the fans, and his overall gentlemanly demeanor.
In honor of Palmer, Golf Digest Editor-in-Chief Jerry Tarde presented the latest edition of the Arnie Award on Tuesday to 2013 U.S. Open champion and 11-time PGA Tour winner Justin Rose. The Arnie Award is Golf Digest's highest honor, given to a player for advanced philanthropic efforts and charitable contributions through the game of golf. Rose was gifted a bronze sculpture of Palmer with his wife, Kate, in celebration of their incredible work, primarily through the Kate and Justin Rose Foundation.
“I've been around for a long time and had a long association with Mr. Palmer, and this is a great honor to be here in the world of Arnie,” Tarde said. “You know Arnold Palmer lived by the old ethos that when you reach the top, you send the elevator back down for the rest, and that's really what he did. He brought the rest of us along on his great success and his passion and love for golf and everything that it brings you. And that's the meaning of the Arnie Award—giving back."
Founded in 2009, the Kate and Justin Rose Foundation has concentrated on supporting children in Central Florida with nutritional and educational needs. The Foundation also partnered with the "Blessings in a Backpack" program, providing weekend meals to poverty-stricken elementary school children.
“I know that there's been so many people before me who have given so much to the game. So this is a huge honor,” said Rose, who lived in Orlando for 10 years. “Anytime you're associated with Mr. Palmer, it's just something incredibly special and a great reminder for me to continue to go about things the right way as he embodied his whole career."
Rose received a sponsor's exemption into the 2025 Arnold Palmer Invitational this week, where he'll make his 20th career start at Bay Hill. Currently ranked 36th in the Official World Golf Ranking, Rose finished runner-up here in 2013 and solo-third in 2018. He's only played three times on the PGA Tour in 2025, with his best finish being a T3 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in early February.
“To able to share this with my family, my wife, Kate, who's been by my side for all of us charitable endeavors or the giving back we've been able to do, especially during in Orlando, it's been nice to share this with her today as well."
