Laurie Canter Rumored To Rejoin LIV Golf

For Laurie Canter, 2025 has been an eventful year.  He started playing on the PGA Tour after his suspension ended for being with LIV Golf.  After he was relegated from the breakout league, he made it a goal to earn a PGA Tour Card.  Recently, he earned his Tour Card.  Now the rumor mill is running with news that he is looking to forgo his Tour Card in favor of rejoining LIV Golf.  A rumor that raises many questions.

Canter’s Opinion On LIV Golf

Earlier in the year, when Laurie Canter started making his way through PGA Tour events, he gave a couple of interviews.  The subject came around to his time on LIV Golf.  He was upset that he was relegated from the league, but he never held a grudge.  Oftentimes, he said that it was a great experience for him.  Particularly with the star players, giving him pointers and advice along the way.  The only thing he didn’t like was the feud between the two leagues, but tension has simmered down greatly since LIV was founded, to the point that merger talks have occasionally resurfaced.

The Rumor

The news of Laurie Canter considering rejoining LIV Golf comes courtesy of Sports Business Journal.  It is also confusing because Canter just earned his Tour Card last week at the DP World Tour Championship.  There, he finished T3 and gathered enough points to earn him that Tour Card.  The sources that SBJ cites are kept anonymous in the article announcing the switch, but according to the author, they are familiar with the matter.  

What This Would Mean For Canter

For Canter, a return to LIV Golf would, of course, be incredibly lucrative.  It would also mean a fresh start in the league.  It is unclear if he would be able to join his old team, the Cleeks GC, but there are other teams with openings.  Teams like the HyFlyers, Torque, and the Iron Heads, all of which saw a member relegated this year.  Some say that he will likely take Henrik Stenson’s spot on the Majesticks.  As for the Tour Card, it would instead go to the runner-up for 10th on the DP World Tour race to Dubai.  It would also mean that the history Canter made by switching between the leagues would be made void by switching back.  A strange thing for golf trivia nights when they get to the LIV Golf category of the game.

Canter And The Rumors

At the time of writing, Laurie Canter hasn’t spoken on the issue.  The rumors have only just begun, giving Canter no time to comment on himself.  If they are true, it means that he worked himself back up to get back into LIV Golf.  If they are not true, and Canter plans to follow through on the PGA Tour, it means that the rumors were unfounded.  Until Canter comments, fans are expecting to see him play on the PGA Tour throughout 2026.  They are still excited to see what he will bring to the table.
