LIV golfer overcomes brutal final round with seven bogeys to secure 15th title

While it is the off-season for most golfers, a few LIV Golf players are still competing in events around the world.

LIV still have not been granted world ranking points, so some of their players have to play on other tours throughout the year just to stay relevant in the rankings.

That is one of the main reasons they are having trouble attracting new signings at the moment.

Most of those motivated by money have already left for LIV from the PGA Tour, and no truly ambitious golfer is looking to make that move right now.

LIV will likely continue trying to sign PGA Tour players over winter, but at this stage, things are not looking promising.

The Saudi-backed outfit benefit from having superstar names and proven winners, though they need more players like the latter to increase weekly field competitiveness.

Marc Leishman claims 15th professional win back home

Marc Leishman made an appearance on the PGA Tour of Australasia at the Victorian PGA Championship, returning to play in his home country.

The final round at Moonah Links turned into a battle against tough conditions, with wind making scoring difficult across the field.

Leishman started his tournament with a level-par round before firing back-to-back rounds of 67 and 68 to take the lead at nine under heading into Sunday.

But as the final round got underway, conditions had changed dramatically, with gusty winds adding another layer of difficulty.

Leishman’s closing round was a grind. He posted a 76, which included seven bogeys, three birdies, and eight pars.

No one managed better than a two-under 70 on the day, and three players did not break 80.

But Leishman did enough to hold on, edging Josh Younger by a single stroke to secure the win.

Marc Leishman climbs world rankings after title win

Playing in the Victorian PGA Championship turned out to be a great move for the 42-year-old Australian, helping him climb up the world rankings.

Leishman started the week at 273rd and finished up at Moonah Links having jumped to 228th, a 45-spot rise that should give him plenty of confidence going into the new season.

He will be hoping LIV’s bid for world ranking points gets approved. If not, he will need to keep playing on other tours if he wants to stay anywhere near the top 100.
