We have reached that time of year again when LIV Golf begin trying to tempt players to jump ship from the PGA Tour.

LIV Golf first emerged onto the scene back in June 2022 and instantly made some huge statement signings from the PGA Tour.

Players such as Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson were among the first swathe of players to join LIV.

Then not long after, the likes of Cameron Smith, Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton switched allegiances as well.

It now seems like LIV have lowered their ambitions when it comes to big-name signings. Instead, they are targeting solid and consistent performers to help fill out the back half of their fields and subsequently increase the level of competition on their tour.

And one of LIV’s newest arrivals has just spilled the beans regarding his thought process behind leaving the PGA Tour for pastures new.

Victor Perez explains what he really didn’t like about the PGA Tour

Frenchman Victor Perez joined LIV Golf from the PGA Tour last month.

He will be part of The Cleeks team in 2026 and many believe he will prove to be a really solid addition to LIV’s ranks, albeit not the megastar signing that some fans wanted to see.

Now Perez has opened up on the real reason why he decided to jump ship from the PGA Tour, when speaking to Today’s Golfer.

“I wouldn’t say I’ve had the best two seasons in America,” Perez said.

“I played decent, but I didn’t have high enough finishes to be in a position to contend. And I just felt the way the PGA Tour was ranking events was putting me at a huge disadvantage.

“Not being in the Signature Events was a big sticking point my end. I could have played better, obviously, but at the same time, I felt like it was really ‘top heavy’. And once you start falling outside the top 10, you’re not really capitalizing on the weeks, which is a little bit of what happened to me.

“On a personal note, it was quite difficult to get to the PGA Tour in 2024 and [see] the rules changing right away.

It started with the elevated events, which I wasn’t in, and then this year they were like, ‘Oh, we’re only going to have 100 cards, instead of 125.’ And it seems like another change is coming soon, or maybe the following season. So I struggled with that instability. They changed CEOs, and there are plenty of things that have happened that have made it quite difficult to really believe in the product.”

Victor Perez didn’t play well enough in 2024 and 2025

Those comments just seem like sour grapes really.

The bottom line is that Perez didn’t play as well as he can, and that’s the reason why he didn’t make it into the Signature Events.

He undoubtedly received a decent signing-on fee to join LIV Golf, and that will make him financially secure for quite some time.

There is nothing wrong with making a move to secure your financial future – 99.9 percent of the world’s population would do the same thing!

The long-term future of LIV Golf is very much up in the air right now, and it remains to be seen whether the decisions from players like Perez to leave the PGA Tour pay off or not.
