After a mixed first couple of days at Torrey Pines for the ongoing Genesis Invitational, rising star Ludvig Aberg is trying to stay in contention for the title with a big showing on Saturday. After what he did on the third hole, he's well on his way to getting there.
Aberg started the day with back-to-back four-hole pars before reaching the par-three third hole. On his tee shot, Aberg's ball struck the green cleanly and rolled backwards a few feet and into the hole for a hole-in-one and an eagle.
The crowd at the hole erupted into applause and Aberg raised his arms in triumph before giving his caddie a handshake.

That hole in one instantly lifted the 25-year-old Swede into the top five at the Genesis Invitational. Unfortunately, the momentum didn't last long.
On the very next hole, Aberg missed the fairway on his tee shot and was forced to settle for a bogey. He would recover with two more birdies on the front nine, only to suffer two more bogeys on the back nine.
Aberg won his first PGA Tour event in the 2023 RSM Classic, which helped him qualify for the 2024 Masters - his first major. He then shocked the world by finishing as the sole second-place finisher behind Masters winner Scottie Scheffler.
Aberg struggled at the ensuing PGA Championship, missing the cut. But he rebounded with a 12th-place finish at the U.S. Open after briefly being the tournament leader. He finished the major season by missing the cut at the Open Championship.
It's currently a dogfight in the Genesis Invitational with Aberg, Patrick Rodgers, Denny McCarthy, Davis Thompson and Scottie Scheffler all vying for the $20 million tournament.
Will Aberg claim victory and his second PGA Tour win?
