Earlier this month Tiger Woods revealed that he sustained a serious Achilles injury that will keep him out of golf for the foreseeable future. While he has publicly stated that he's in good spirits, what do the people close to him know about the situation?
"As I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured," Woods said in a statement announcing the injury several days back. "This morning, Dr. Charlton Stucken of Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida performed a minimally-invasive Achilles tendon repair for a ruptured tendon.
"I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab, thank you for all the support."
Woods has dealt with no shortage of setbacks in his professional and personal life. Prior to this injury, his mother Kultida passed away in early February.
But despite all of these setbacks, Woods is reportedly hanging in strong. In a recent interview, former major winner Fred Couples - a longtime friend of Woods - said that Woods is in "great spirits" in spite of the injury.
“He’s in great spirits.”

"I've texted him as soon as it happened, he got back to me, I've texted him on a couple of other things - TGL, his daughter just won the state soccer thing," Couples said, via The Daily Mail.
"That was before he hurt himself, he was on cloud 20. He is in great spirits for a ruptured Achilles, he really is. He'll be fine.
"It's such a bummer because people think 'when is he going to play?'. He was scheduled to play a few events, not a ton but a few events.
"And his mother passing away would slow anyone down but he is my man and texting him is a lot of fun."
Woods had been preparing for another run at the Masters this April prior to the injury.
While he may not be back on the golf course for a while, it's good to know that he's doing well in spite of how rough this year has been.
