With the 2025 Masters Tournament having now concluded, one of the most intriguing changes took place in the purse amount. An increase to its record setting amount for the tournament, with a purse of $21 million. That’s up from the $20 million amount in last year’s tournament, and $18 million during the 2023 season of play. In a fantastic finish, spectators were able to see the first playoff at Augusta since the 2017 Tour season. With Rory Mcllroy and Justin Rose battling it out, Mcllroy was able to stay hot and secure his first ever green jacket and Grand Slam. Finally securing his victory at the Masters after multiple trips, Mcllroy was also able to take home a $4.2 million first-place prize.
“A moment like that makes all the years and close calls worth it,” Mcllroy said.
With all those in attendance eager to see the winner of this tournament, Mcllroy extended it a little longer after a mishap at the 18th hole. Going into the playoff holes, nothing slowed him down from taking home a big payday. Not only did Mcllroy handle his business securing the record purse, but the top four finishers Sunday all took home an eye-opening seven figures. Besides the $4.2 million for first, the runner-up received $2.268 million, third took home $1.428 million and fourth received $1.008 million.
Many have yet to take part in the tradition of being given a green jacket, but even without it you can walk off with your head held high. When putting into perspective all the season dues these players have to payout, a top place finish can go a long way in the end. From taking care of personal caddies, season and personal expenses, there are many areas to take care of financially. With this career solidifying victory for Mcllroy, he can continue on his historic run.
With the understanding of an impactful payout for the top four within the leaderboard, there is still a payday for those who finished towards the bottom of the list as well. The remainder of the field after this top 50, will still be recognized for their efforts depending on scores for the tournament. Payments according to reports, will be in the range of $51,660 and downward due to the record purse.
