Max Homa wrapped up a tough season with a top-10 finish at the Bank of Utah Championship, finding some positivity in what has been a challenging stretch of form.
It has been a difficult 18 months for Homa. Since his Masters run in 2024 was derailed by a bad bounce on the 12th during the final round, he has not been able to recapture that momentum.
After Augusta, he managed just one more top-10 finish last year. This season has followed a similar pattern, with his ninth-place showing at the Bank of Utah Championship standing as his second-best result of the campaign.
Homa was also dealing with an ankle injury during the tournament. Even so, he will be frustrated not to have gone lower at any point during the week, finishing seven shots behind Michael Brennan.
After wrapping up his season in Utah, the 34-year-old confirmed on social media that it was his final start of the year. He also took a moment to address some of the challenges he faced throughout the season.
Still, he maintained that there were positives to take into 2026.
He wrote: “2025 season is a wrap for me. Disappointing season. It’s not a true failure if u learn something from it, and boy did I learn a lot this year. Looking forward to getting to work and making ‘26 my female dog. Huge thx to Utah and all the fans for showing out this week and making my last event of the year a fun one!”
The autumn stretch gave him something positive to build on as well, with three top-20 finishes in four starts.
Consistency over four rounds seems to be his main hurdle right now. The last time he went through an entire tournament without shooting 67 or better was back at the Rocket Mortgage Classic in June.
At John Deere, he opened with a 63, and later fired a Saturday 64 at Sanderson Farms. In Utah, two rounds of 66 added to that pattern – plenty of low scores across events, but not always strung together in one week.
It is never easy to put all four rounds together, even for top-level players, something fans often overlook when talking about form slumps.
A six-time winner on tour already, Homa also led Team USA in points at the 2023 Ryder Cup, reminders that his ceiling remains high even during difficult stretches.
With flashes still showing up regularly in his game, it would not be surprising if things start falling into place sooner rather than later.
