Max Homa reveals the two PGA Tour friends who are helping him through his worst season yet

Max Homa’s 2025 has not gone to plan, with the six-time PGA Tour winner missing seven cuts in his first 16 starts and struggling to find his best game across all areas.

Homa faces an uphill battle to qualify for the FedEx Cup Playoffs – he sits 122nd in the standings and has slipped close to falling out of the top 100 in the world rankings.

It’s a far cry from where he was just a year ago, when he was in contention on the back nine at the Masters. But since then, consistent four-round performances have eluded him.

You have to go back to The Sentry for the last time Homa broke 70 in all four rounds – and even then, he finished only tied for 26th place at Kapalua.

Max Homa points to Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa as ‘the greatest friends’ someone could ask for

Speaking ahead of the John Deere Classic, Homa revealed how Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa have stayed connected with him, regularly checking in to see how he’s doing both on and off the course.

“Yeah, you know, played nine holes with Jason Day yesterday. We talked about a lot of things. He’s always a breath of fresh air out here. He’s a wealth of knowledge. Justin Thomas has been like the greatest friend you could ever ask for through all of this. Collin Morikawa, too. Just talks to me all the time. On his off weeks, he’ll check in on me, how it’s going. He did it all last week.

“So I have the utmost respect for him. I owe him a ton just giving his time and the fact that he really cares. So that has been really helpful,” he told the media.

Homa also highlighted how important it is to have a fellow player by his side at this moment – someone who can understand his situation better.

“Obviously I’m lucky I’ve got an amazing wife, but it is nice to hear it from people who kind of have gone through – not gone through it, but just that play the game. It’s hard to explain at times why something feeling bad is so disruptive.

“Obviously you get to listen to a two-time major champion, he’s won a ton of golf tournaments out here. It’s very fortunate to have somebody like that to lean on.”

While he still has playing privileges thanks to his 2023 victory, the pressure to get back in form will only grow — especially with signature event status becoming more important to career longevity on tour.
