Rory McIlroy has revealed that he has had to be patient as he continues his hunt for the Dubai title. The 36-year-old recently had an award named after him by the DP World Tour, and he is currently on track for a fourth consecutive Race to Dubai title, where eight other members of Europe’s victorious Ryder Cup team are also vying for glory.

McIlroy Had To Be Patient After Slightly Tougher Conditions

The Northern Irishman is chasing the seventh Race to Dubai title of his career and a fourth consecutive title, having won the last three editions of the competition. He put in an impressive display during the opening round at the DP World Tour Championship as he hit a six-under 66 to open his round with three consecutive birdies. However, on Friday, the 36-year-old battled against tough conditions to shoot a 69. He shot three bogeys and six birdies on his way around the course and holed several clutch putts that prevented him from falling further behind.

The World No. 2 advanced barely 30 yards from the rough on the final hole before he managed to salvage a par to finish round two at nine strokes under par, but he remains in a good position to win his fourth Race to Dubai title in a row.

“I had to battle a little more today than I did yesterday; the conditions were slightly tougher, so if you look at the scoring yesterday compared to today, it’s a little bit tougher,” McIlroy explained. “There were a couple of missed fairways today, and when that happened, I ended up with some really bad lies — the worst I’ve seen this week. The last hole was especially difficult, as the ball didn’t even make it back onto the fairway and forced a scramble. Overall, the round still showed my scoring skills as I battled well, stayed patient, and got the ball up and down when needed. I’m pretty pleased considering some of the spots I found myself in.”

Hojgaard Leads As McIlroy Ranks Joint Second

Nicolai Højgaard holds a three-shot lead at the halfway point of the DP World Tour Championship, while Rory McIlroy remains firmly in the hunt as he aims to wrap up another Race to Dubai crown. The Dane produced an impressive bogey-free 65 that included an eagle and five birdies to move to 12 under and strengthen his bid to win the title.

McIlroy is part of a crowded group in second place. Ryder Cup teammates Justin Rose and Shane Lowry, along with Rasmus Højgaard and Daniel Hillier, join him. Tommy Fleetwood, Robert MacIntyre, Alex Noren, and Laurie Canter sit one shot further back at eight under. Should McIlroy win the Race to Dubai on Sunday, he would be just one behind Colin Montgomerie’s record of eight Order of Merit titles.

With Nicolai Højgaard leading and several Ryder Cup teammates close behind, McIlroy remains in contention for a historic fourth consecutive Race to Dubai title. Fans will be watching closely as the final round in Dubai promises plenty of drama.
