American golfer Michael Kim struggled to maintain momentum during a turbulent week at the PGA Championship.
Kim struggled a bit in the first two rounds at Aronimink, scoring 73 and 70. However, he picked up the pace in the third round with a score of 67.
In a recent X post, he opened up about his mistakes in the final round that eventually took him out of contention.
“Another up and down week from me where I had lots of great stretches but too many bad stretches that cost me a higher finish. The OB on 13 Sunday with a 3wd was a real bummer. Just toed the c*** out of it and went OB by 1 yard,” said Kim.

-I got a lot of set up questions so I’ll start there. In general I liked the set up. It was a very unique challenge with the greens and pin locations. But some holes like 8 yesterday was… aggressive. It’s a 205 yd shot into the wind where you had to hit…
Earlier during the tournament, Kim had claimed that the 13th hole was “overdone.” The claim was backed by his argument that the pin was “moved up too much.”
However, in the third round, the American took complete advantage of the pin location as he drove the 292-yard green and had an eagle putt.
In the closing round, the 13th hole became Kim’s kryptonite.
“10 and 15 just totally ate my breakfast lunch and dinner. They were very hard holes if you couldn’t play a cut with ur driver,” Kim added.
Kim entered the final round at even par, but costly mistakes on the 10th, 13th, and 15th holes led to a two-over 72, leaving the World No. 45 tied for 44th and still searching for his first major victory.
The PGA Championship has never been an event where Kim has found it easy. Last year, at Quail Hollow Club, he secured a T55 finish, and prior to that, he had failed to even make the cut.
British golfer Aaron Rai came out on top at Aronimink, and Kim gave him his flowers.
Rai won his first major at Aronimink, scoring 9-under par. He finished three strokes ahead of Spain’s Jon Rahm and America’s Alex Smalley.
“Massive congrats to Aaron Rai. Such a nice guy and a hard worker. Makes me want to work harder and a greater belief that I can win majors as well,” Kim wrote in his X post.
Kim won his first title on the PGA Tour back in 2018 at the John Deere Classic. The 32-year-old is yet to add another victory on the tour.
Rai’s win out of the packed leaderboard was exceptional. As Kim struggled in the closing round, Rai shot an extraordinary closing-round score of 5-under 65 to secure the Wanamaker Trophy.
