It could always feel like a little bit of a letdown the week after the PGA Championship. For this event, we are getting a good field in Texas headlined by top-ranked Scottie Scheffler and Justin Thomas, who just won the PGA Championship last week.
Jordan Spieth is also a familiar name and perhaps he should even be the favorite this week. He has won the event before and has three runner-up finishes on this course.
Will Zalatoris is in the field, looking to show he actually has what it takes to win a PGA event. He finished second last week, which was the second time he has been a runner-up this season.
Colonial has a unique PGA Tour tradition known as the Champion's Choice invitation. Each year, former Colonial champions select two deserving young players, who otherwise would be ineligible, to compete in the tournament. Only once has this choice won the event, way back in 1967.
Dates: May 26-29
Course: Colonial Golf Course, Fort Worth, Texas
Purse: $8,400,000
Chris Kirk 45-1
Kirk just missed the odds list above but he is not coming out of left field for this one. He was much stronger than expected last week at the PGA, finishing fifth, so perhaps he carries that momentum into this weekend.
Justin Rose 65-1
Rose looked good last week at the PGA Championship and might be suited to play well on this course thanks to the number of long holes. At that payoff, he is a longshot worth considering.
Jordan Spieth 14-1
There is nobody in the field with a better course history than Spieth. In the recent past, he has struggled with the putter but that is not likely to be the case on a course where he is comfortable.
Collin Morikawa Top Ten (+300)
Morikawa looks undervalued this week because he was bad at the PGA Championship last week. Taking the derivative top 10 play is a strong belief that he can bounce back quickly. Even with some recent lesser performances, he has still finished in the top 10 in three of his past six events.
Tom Hoge 60-1
Finishing up with a deep sleeper here in terms of the payoff, but you might have forgotten that his two best finishes of his career have come in 2022. That is a win at Pebble Beach and a runner-up at The American Express. He also has a No. 9 finish in 2022. That is pretty good form for those deep odds.
