PGA 2022: Genesis Invitational odds and best bets

Last week's Phoenix Open saw a first time PGA winner for the third week in a row. That is probably just one of the reasons we are seeing favorite Jon Rahm priced at over +750 for the first time in a while. It might be the time to strike.

The Riviera might not host a major but it is considered one of the best golf courses in the world and that is a reason why all of the top 10 in the world golf rankings are participating this week.

Not in that group is last year's winner Max Homa, who finished 5th the year before that. Those are two of his six best finishes on the tour. He is +5500 to repeat and that would be a great payoff the weekend after the Super Bowl, whether you won or lost.

You know who finished fifth last season and would certainly not be a shock to win the even this year?  Jon Rahm.

Bets to Consider

Patrick Cantlay +1200

Cantlay was so very close to winning last week you can make some compelling arguments that he is the best in the world at the moment. If you are going to pull from the favorites above he looks like the best price to probability pick.

Sahith Theegala To Finish Top 20 (+350)

Theegala is definitley not the most talked about player on the tour but he gathered attention with a third place finish last week. That might make him a prime candidate to stumble a little this week which is why the top 20 bet is the way to play it.

Dustin Johnson +1500

DJ won this event back in 2017 with a -17. I always gravitate towards players that have had success on a particular course and in addition to that win he has finished 8th and 10th the last couple of years at the Genesis so the event clearly agrees with him. The odds are really good if you are looking for a proven winner.

Joaquin Niemann +5000

The history of the PGA tour is littered with players who looked like they were going to really push for a win and then fell apart. That is what happened to Niemann last year at the Genesis. He has three top ten performances in his last 5 events so the form has been there.

Adam Scott to Finish Top 20 (+170)

Scott won the Genesis in 2020 so there is some history to go with this pick. He was not great last week at the Phoenix Open but he did finish in the top 10 in World Tour events in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. A top 20 is far from an elite performance so there is good value from a guy who has shown he can succeed at the Riviera.
