News broke on Thursday afternoon that the PGA Tour and the PIF were meeting at the White House with President Donald Trump, presumably to negotiate a deal for golf unification. Tiger Woods, Adam Scott, and Commissioner Jay Monahan were among the members reported for the meeting.
Following the conclusion of the meeting the PGA Tour issued the following statement on the details of the discussion.

While obtaining details about the meeting, a little nugget came from the Golf Channel's Rex Hoggard. Hoggard seemed to indicate the idea during the discussions.

If things advance at the current rate, the opening window for LIV players to participate could be as soon as this year, including the Players Championship, which is in just a few weeks. That is a rather aggressive timeline, and we will have to wait and see how everything shakes out. However, it is a very encouraging sign that this is even being thrown out into the universe at this juncture.
Once again, it is happening. Though progress cannot be precisely measured at this point, it is evident that tangible improvements are being made. The initiative to reach a deal is finally present.
The upcoming weeks are uncertain. There may be a quick turnaround with LIV players participating in PGA Tour events this season. Alternatively, a longer wait might be necessary, except for the Majors. However, it is clear that progress and meaningful efforts are, for once, apparent from both sides.
The speed with which these conversations have started after the initial standoff is encouraging. While the next steps are not yet defined, they are expected to be even more progressive than today. The world is gradually moving closer to the eventual reunification of the game of golf in the near future.
