The third round of the PGA Championship will be delayed for quite a bit due to brutal weather conditions at Quail Hollow.
Coming into this Saturday's round, Jhonattan Vegas was at the top of the leaderboard at 8-under-par. Matt Fitzpatrick, Si Woo Kim and Matthieu Pavon are all two shots behind him. We also can't forget about two-time Masters champion Scottie Scheffler, who is currently sitting at 5-under par.
Unfortunately for those who made the cut, they won't be teeing off this morning. At least not yet.
Roughly 45 minutes before the first pairing was scheduled to tee off, the PGA Championship suspended play due to dangerous weather conditions. This decision was made as showers were rolling into the Charlotte area.
"Play has been SUSPENDED due to dangerous weather in the area," the PGA Championship said. "Please seek shelter immediately. Further updates to follow."
The only good news for the PGA Championship is that Saturday's weather should clear up fairly soon.
"A line of strong to severe thunderstorms will weaken as it approaches the Charlotte area this morning," the forecast states. "Showers and a few thunderstorms will be likely by 7AM and will weaken further to scattered showers as they exit the area around 10AM. Once the precipitation exits, skies will become partly cloudy this afternoon with highs warming into the mid-80s."
While the rain will soon depart Quail Hollow, golfers are expected to deal with steady breezes of 14-18 mph throughout this Saturday.
If this weather delay lingers for hours, that could force the PGA Championship to complete the third round on Sunday.
