Tiger Woods’ immediate future might not be as clear as he would like, and it seems that the 15-time major champion is having a hard time planning for next year. Woods, 50, has endured multiple surgeries in the last year.
He has yet to decide on whether he would participate in the Masters in April, but the pressure continues to mount on another potential big commitment for 2027. Woods is the leading candidate to be captain of the U.S. team in the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor, Ireland.
The Associated Press reported that Woods was asked to decide if he wants the role before the Masters starts. The Augusta tournament will run from April 9 to 12. It wasn’t an ultimatum, but a soft deadline. PGA of America officials had to wait longer than before before giving Keegan Bradley the honor in 2025.
On Feb. 15, Tiger Woods said he hadn’t ruled out playing the Masters. However, he added that his recovery from back and Achilles tendon surgeries is a process.
“I’m trying, put it that way,” he said. “The disc replacement has been one thing. I’ve had a fused back and now a disc replacement, so it’s challenging.
“And now I entered a new decade, so that number is starting to sink in and has us thinking about the opportunity to be able to play in a cart. That’s something that, as I said, I won’t do out here on this tour because I don’t believe in it. But on the Champions Tour, that’s certainly that opportunity.”
Woods might have plenty of commitments once he returns to the course.
