After the USA’s loss to Europe under Keegan Bradley at Bethpage Black, attention has already turned to the 2027 Ryder Cup. The focus is now on who will be tasked with regaining the cup for the American side.

Jim Furyk, USA vice-captain, expressed pride in Bradley’s work, despite Team Europe’s 15-13 victory.

But Furyk’s praise has not shielded the 39-year-old from criticism in some corners, and now the PGA of America faces a big decision about who will take charge at Adare Manor in 2027.

Luke Donald could continue as Europe’s captain for a third consecutive tournament as the event moves to Ireland.

Donald led Europe to victories in Rome and New York, and Jon Rahm has been vocal about wanting him to stay on as captain again.

Why PGA of America should appoint Keegan Bradley as 2027 Ryder Cup captain, according to Mel Reid and Kira Dixon

Bradley’s future has come up again, with Mel Reid and Kira Dixon discussing his chances of keeping the captaincy for the next Ryder Cup.

On the Quiet Please! Podcast, Dixon said: “I don’t think he should have been playing captain because that’s insane and just from my perspective, from the amount of media these guys do.

“They are up until 8pm at night just talking to people like me, I can’t imagine them having to recover from that!

“I don’t think it’s possible to do both. I think if he wanted to play he should have said no to the job. But if Luke Donald is captain again, I think Keegan should be captain again.

“Because bringing in a fresh captain to go up against somebody who is captaining their third Ryder Cup team… the only wrench would be if Tiger [Woods] would do it.

“I think the timing will be better too, because he won’t be as focused necessarily on his own game. He was doing all of this at the same time as playing a full PGA Tour schedule.”

Reid then shared her thoughts: “I feel like captains should do two rounds. I’m a bit old school like that. I think you should do a home and away.

“I think Keegan was a good captain to be honest. I think he got a bit of stick, but I like Keegan. I think he is exactly what the Ryder Cup is about. He is passionate and fiery, he is a team guy. I think he deserves another go and another shot at it.”

Early names to watch in the 2027 US Ryder Cup captaincy race

Right now, it looks unlikely that Bradley will get another shot as captain, given how his reputation took a hit after Bethpage Black.

There was plenty of pressure on him to deliver a win at home, but things got off to a rough start when Europe built an early lead.

The Americans did rally well on Sunday, but by then it was too late for Bradley and his side.

Still, some of the focus should shift away from the US and towards Donald, who deserves plenty of credit for how he guided Europe to another win.

He made very few mistakes at Bethpage Black and would be an easy choice if he wanted to stay on as captain for Adare Manor.

On the American side, Brandt Snedeker has been mentioned as a possible captain. Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson have also come up in conversations about the role.
