PGA Tour Announces Unfortunate Si Woo Kim News on Friday
Gregory Fisher-USA TODAY Sports

Si Woo Kim carded a 1-over 71 in his first round at the Travelers Championship on Thursday, putting him nine strokes behind 18-hole tournament leaders Austin Eckroat and Scottie Scheffler heading into Round 2.

Kim got off to a rough start on Friday, notching a double bogey on the par-4 first hole at TPC River Highlands. The No. 61 golfer in the World Golf Rankings then followed that double with back-to-back bogeys on holes two and three.

Kim's second round at the Travelers Championship came to an end after he carded another double bogey on the par-4 12th. The four-time PGA Tour winner withdrew with a back injury.

Kim was 8-over at the time of his withdrawal on Friday.

"Si Woo Kim is a WD with a back injury during the second round of the Travelers Championship," the PGA Tour wrote in an announcement on X.

Kim has a history of back injury issues, but this was his first withdrawal of the 2025 season. The 29-year-old golfer finished T8 at both the RBC Heritage and PGA Championship earlier this year, earning him 38th position on the season-long FedEx Cup standings. He finished T42 at last week's U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club.

Kim is the second player to withdraw from this week's signature event at TPC River Highlands. Jordan Spieth withdrew from the Travelers Championship field with a neck/upper back injury after going 5-over through his first 12 holes on Thursday.

World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler leads the field at 11-under through 14 holes in his second round on Friday.
