PGA Tour commissioner called liar, Rory McIlroy told to 'f--- off' during wild meeting

As the 227th-ranked golfer in the world, Grayson Murray hasn't quite made a name for himself yet.

The 29-year-old is making headlines this week though, following Tuesday night's wild meeting in the wake of the partnership between LIV Golf, the PGA Tour and DP World Tour.

According to a report by golf correspondent James Corrigan of The Telegraph, Murray shouted for PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan to resign during the players meeting, saying "we don’t trust you, Jay -- you lied to our face." Four-time major winner Rory McIlroy then reportedly yelled back "just play better, Grayson" and Murray replied by telling McIlroy to "f--- off."

The meeting took place in the Oakdale Country Club clubhouse in Toronto, where the Canadian Open is scheduled to begin on Thursday. McIlroy is the defending Canadian Open champion.

Per Corrigan, the meeting took place "just a few hours after" Monahan sat with Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund governor Yasi Al-Rumayyan to announce the merger.

Monahan called Tuesday night's players meeting "intense" and "heated," according to The Telegraph's report.

Corrigan wrote that PGA Tour pro Johnson Wagner estimated that 90% of the players in attendance were against the commissioner.

"What I have been told by my peers is that they feel betrayed right now. There must have been 20-25 guys who used that word," Player Advisory Council member Ryan Armour said, per Corrigan. "They feel backstabbed. And they feel slighted."

"I’m glad I wasn’t Jay today," 2006 U.S. Open champion Geoff Ogilvy added. "There’s some grumpy players in there. I feel a little bit sort of, not lied to, but just that the tour has sort of changed its position quickly and dropped it on us really fast. So maybe there’s a feeling of a lack of trust a little bit in the leadership."

PGA Tour pro Wesley Bryan explained on Twitter that the exchange between McIlroy and Murray wasn't as bad as it appeared to be. He also said that while Monahan is a "horrible communicator to the people that 'work' for him," the commissioner is still a "great guy."
