World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler is fresh off a dominant win at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson this past weekend. The PGA Tour superstar is skipping this weekend's Truist Championship as he prepares for the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow next week.
Scheffler had an eventful week at last year's PGA Championship. Before his second round at Valhalla Golf Club, he was arrested and taken to jail following an encounter with Louisville police. He was charged with felony assault of a police officer and three other misdemeanors, but all charges were ultimately dropped
This unfortunate series of events came just days after Scheffler and his wife, Meredith, welcomed their first child.
On Thursday, Scheffler took to social media to celebrate his son Bennett's first birthday.
"One whole year with our little man!" Scheffler wrote on Instagram.
The PGA Tour took to the comment section with its reaction to this news.
"Happy birthday Bennett," the tour wrote.
Scheffler discussed the importance of family after winning the CJ Cup Byron Nelson just outside of his hometown of Dallas, Texas.
“This tournament brings up a lot of emotions,” Scheffler said after notching his 14th PGA Tour win. "... I’ve been attending this tournament since I was a kid. It was my first PGA Tour start when I was in high school... The girl I was dating back then is now my wife. We have a son. My sister was my caddie back then, and she was here today too. She has two children now.
“Having my entire family here made it an incredibly special moment, and sometimes it all just hits me at once.”
Scheffler, a two-time Masters champion, now heads to Quail Hollow as one of the leading favorites to notch his third major title.
