Rickie Fowler is surging up the leaderboard at the St. Jude Championship, but the challenge is it may not be enough. Fowler is fighting to advance in the FedExCup Playoffs but will need an impressive showing on Sunday to secure a tee time at the BMW Championship.
Heading into the final round of the St. Jude Championship, the PGA Tour provided an updated look at the FedExCup Playoff standings. The top 50 golfers in the playoffs standings will advance to the BMW Championship, and Fowler sits just above the cut line at No. 49 ahead of Sunday's final round at the St. Jude Championship.

In other words, Fowler has little margin for error on Sunday. Fowler is surging up the St. Jude leaderboard at T6 with a 9-under par score through the first three rounds.
The playoffs started with 70 golfers at the St. Jude Championship before 50 advance to the BMW Championship. Finally, 30 golfers will advance after the BMW Championship to compete at East Lake for the TOUR Championship.

Fowler has about 10 million reasons to keep his foot on the gas. The winner of the TOUR Championship lands a $10 million check.
This is in addition to the potential lucrative earnings at the BMW Championship with the winner expected to take home more than $3 million. There are also additional bonus opportunities based on the playoff standings. Despite the pressure, Fowler remains optimistic that he can advance.
See it to believe it.

"We're in the mix," Fowler told reporters on Saturday. "We'll kind of see where guys finish up. We'll be within hopefully decent distance where go put together another solid front nine and see if we can get ourselves in the mix for the back nine and final few holes and give ourselves a chance.
"But it's going to take a good round of golf. We'll focus on trying to chase our way up the board. I need to play well tomorrow to get myself into next week. We'll focus on one thing and just playing some good golf."
