Unfortunately, it could be a while before the second round of the PGA Tour's CJ Cup Byron Nelson resumes.
While TPC Craig Ranch is usually an ideal location for a golf tournament in the spring, the weather hasn't been too kind to Texas this week. There are severe thunderstorms sweeping through the state this Friday. Several counties are expected to be hit with strong winds and heavy rainfall.
As if that's not bad enough, Texas is also expected to be hit with baseball-sized hail. There's also a tornado risk in the Lone Star State, but that doesn't seem to be a huge concern at this time.
All that being said, the PGA Tour had no choice but to suspend play at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.
The second round of the CJ Cup Byron Nelson was suspended at 10:46 a.m. ET due to lightning in the area.
Moments ago, the PGA Tour provided an update on the weather delay. It wasn't the update fans were hoping for.
"Storms continue in the area and second-round play remains suspended," the PGA Tour said.
Right before the horn blew this Friday morning, Scottie Scheffler eagled his ninth hole. The world No. 1 is currently at the top of the leaderboard at 12-under par. Jhonattan Vegas is in second place at 10-under par.
The best-case scenario for the PGA Tour is that it resumes the CJ Cup Byron Nelson later this afternoon.
Of course, the PGA Tour is at the mercy of Mother Nature. Let's just say she can be unpredictable.
