The anticipation at Augusta National Golf Club for the Masters is building as the world's best golfers prepare to compete for the coveted green jacket and secure their place in an exclusive group of champions.
With the best of the best from the PGA Tour and LIV Golf League merging for the first time this year, the field is as competitive and unpredictable as it's been in a long time.
One player to watch, despite being a heavy underdog, is the legendary Phil Mickelson. At 54 years old, Mickelson has been playing some excellent golf recently on the LIV circuit, and after a strong finish at a Miami tournament on Sunday, he sent a clear message about his form heading into the Masters — a course where he has enjoyed immense success, winning the prestigious event three times.
“I’m playing good golf," Mickelson said. "I’m driving it well. I’m hitting good iron shots, putting it well. I’m looking forward to competing at Augusta, a course I know very well, and feel like I have the game now and am hitting the shots to compete.”

Fans reacted to Mickelson's comments with mixed emotions, with some believing he'll compete, while others are doubtful that he still has it in him at this stage of his career.
"He's definitely playing good golf! Can't wait till Thursday!," A fan said.
"Take it to the cabin Phil You're jacket awaits," Someone else added.
"Makes cut only to shoot 78 the next day. Bookmark it," Another fan posted.
One more fan commented, "Too bad Phil has been softened. Mark the words pal!"
Mickelson is a six-time major champion, with his most recent major victory coming in 2021 at the PGA Championship at the age of 50. His three Masters titles were won in 2004, 2006, and 2010.
If he were to win this weekend, he would become the oldest player ever to win the tournament by a significant margin. Currently, Jack Nicklaus holds the record as the oldest champion at 46, while Tiger Woods won his last Masters at 43.
