Phil Mickelson has withdrawn from the 2026 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, according to The Telegraph.

The six-time major champion’s decision comes amid new allegations that he showed an explicit photograph to the wife of a fellow golf professional. The Telegraph and other outlets reported that Mickelson has pulled out of the event, which is scheduled for July 16-19 at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in England.

Recent Context

Mickelson has already missed the first three majors of the 2026 season. He withdrew from both the Masters in April and the PGA Championship in May, citing a “personal health matter with his family.” He also did not compete in the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills earlier this month.

His absence from The Open marks another major he will miss this year. Mickelson has not played competitively since late 2025 and has been dealing with personal matters away from the game.

Mickelson’s withdrawal from The Open is the latest in a series of setbacks for the 56-year-old. While he has remained eligible for The Open through past achievements, his decision to step away comes at a time when he is facing renewed public scrutiny over recent allegations.
