Phil Mickelson's Embarrassing Scottie Scheffler 'Hot Take' Going Viral

Phil Mickelson might just be a better golfer than he is a golf prognosticator.

Back in March, Mickelson offered up a "hot take" on X/Twitter to former Masters champion Trevor Immelman. Mickelson, a six-time major winner in his own right, predicted that Scottie Scheffler would go 0-fer 2025 until the Ryder Cup in September.

"Here's a hot take: Does Scottie win in 2025 before the Ryder Cup? I don't think so," Mickelson wrote.

Fast forward to now and Scheffler just wrapped up The Open Championship at Royal Portrush by four strokes. It was the fourth win of the year for the world's No. 1 ranked golfer, and the second major victory for Scheffler since Mickelson's ill-fated take four months ago.

Mickelson had already taken plenty of heat for this prediction following Schefter's first three wins this year. As he put the finishing touches on another one Sunday, the masses had a few more laughs at Lefty's expense.

"This may go down as the worst take in golf history," one fan said.

"This probably should’ve been Take of the Year. That’s on me," added Barstool Big Cat.

"Unfathomable wrongness by Phil, might be the wrongest tweet of all time," another fan added.

"Just an all-time diabolically bad take that gets worse on a seemingly weekly basis," chimed in radio producer Tyler Corbit.

"All those gambling debts make a bit more sense now," a fifth person said.

Still competing on the LIV Golf circuit and in major tournaments, Mickelson remains a golf legend. However, his forecasting skills need some work.

As for Scheffler, he's now one leg away from the career Grand Slam. The last major he needs to check off the list is the U.S. Open.

Considering Scheffler has finished in the top seven at the U.S. Open four times in the last five years, it seems like only a matter of time until he wins the event.
