Rickie Fowler is in grave danger of missing the Masters

If the Masters started today, Rickie Fowler wouldn't be in the field at Augusta National Golf Club. The 36-year-old is quickly running out of time to punch his ticket to the first major championship of the 2025 season.

Since Fowler is ranked outside the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking (currently 105th), he's not high enough to automatically qualify for the Masters. The fan-favorite was able to tee it up at Augusta National last year by winning the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic. That exemption has run dry. Fowler has only two more chances to score a last-minute invite to the Masters, but it's a long shot.

The only way Fowler can qualify for the Masters is to win the Texas Children's Houston Open this week or the Valero Texas Open next week. Considering he's won just once since 2019, it's highly unlikely we'll see him donning his iconic Sunday orange at Augusta this year.

Nothing about Fowler's 2025 season indicates he's going to win anytime soon. The American has finished T21, T53, WD, T39, T18 and 71st in his six starts, and he's coming off shooting 82-79 on the weekend at the Players Championship. Fowler ranks 138th on the PGA Tour this season in total strokes gained (-0.603), 136th in scoring average (71.0) and 111th in bogey avoidance (15.9 percent).

This is a concerning trend for Fowler, whose worries extend beyond just the Masters. He's currently 117th in the FedEx Cup standings, but only the top 100 at the end of the season are guaranteed full-time status in 2026. In other words, Fowler is in danger of losing his PGA Tour card altogether. He'll need to win a tournament or move inside the top 100 in the FedEx Cup standings by the end of the year to stay alive.

This could be the beginning of the end for Fowler's PGA Tour career.
