Rob McIntyre Makes Prediction Ahead of Genesis Scottish Open
Dan Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports

The Genesis Scottish Open tees off on Thursday at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick with a field brimming with star power.

Four of the world’s top five — Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa and Justin Thomas — are set to compete, each eager to master the challenging par‑70, 7,237‑yard links layout.

With a $9 million purse on offer, the tournament is a pivotal warm‑up for next week’s Open Championship at Royal Portrush.

For Scotland's Robert MacIntyre, however, this week carries special weight.

Speaking on Wednesday, MacIntyre reflected on last year’s victory and shared his ambition to defend the title.

"It was the most special thing to happen in my golfing career, to be honest with you," he said. "Yeah, it’s a year on, but try to do the same thing this week ... I’m coming here to win the Scottish Open. I mean, it’s the biggest golf tournament, I would say, outside of the major championships for me.

"I’ve won it once. But every time I pitch up, I want to win it again. I want to keep this trophy every year until I stop playing."

In July 2024, he became the first Scottish player to lift the Genesis Scottish Open trophy in the Rolex Series era, beating Adam Scott by one shot on home soil.

That victory capped a breakthrough season in which he cemented his status among Europe’s elite, having already claimed his maiden PGA Tour title at the RBC Canadian Open.

At 28 years old, MacIntyre has won three European Tour events, two PGA Tour events and has steadily climbed the Official World Golf Ranking, ranking No. 14 entering this week's event.

On the PGA Tour this season, he’s recorded four top‑10 finishes, eight top-25 finishes and a runner-up finish at the U.S. Open in June.
