Rory McIlroy had a hard time controlling his emotions during a frustrating week at the 2025 U.S. Open, but he did manage to pull off one of the most impressive club tosses of all time.

McIlroy was one of the favorites to win entering the U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa., but he was unable to get anything going from the start. A combination of poor shot execution and challenging course conditions had him looking as flustered as ever throughout the tournament.

During the final round on Sunday, McIlroy hit a bad iron shot and then motioned like he was going to whip his club. He instead restrained himself a bit and gently tossed the club toward his bag.

What happened next is something that cannot be practiced nor taught:

McIlroy probably could not do that again if he tried.

McIlroy had a couple of outbursts during the second round on Friday as well. He shattered a tee marker on the short par-4 17th hole after he was unhappy with his drive.

The 2025 Masters champion also had a two-handed tomahawk club throw.

McIlroy began the U.S. Open by bombing a drive nearly 400 yards, but it was all downhill from there. It seemed like he could not wait to get away from Oakmont.
