With Keegan Bradley’s six captain’s picks now confirmed, one of the next big decisions for the USA will be who lines up alongside Bryson DeChambeau at Bethpage Black.

DeChambeau is set to return to Ryder Cup action next month after missing out on the event in Rome two years ago.

The two-time US Open champion stands out on this year’s American squad as their only LIV Golf player.

His past performances in the Ryder Cup have been a bit of a mixed bag. He didn’t manage to score a point in his 2018 debut, but he looked much better playing with Scottie Scheffler three years later.

Dan Rapaport recommends who Bryson DeChambeau should partner with at the Ryder Cup

While some pairings feel straightforward – like Xander Schauffele alongside Patrick Cantlay – there’s real curiosity around who Bradley will line up next to DeChambeau.

But speaking on Dan on Golf, Dan Rapaport suggested that DeChambeau may be the right person to put with one of the rookies in New York.

“I think we go Bryson and Cam Young, just do that in best ball, just the bombers. Have two guys who fly it 330,” he said.

“I think Collin and JT, Collin is a guy who could play with Russell Henley I’m thinking maybe. Collin could play with Harris English. But I think the most solid teams are Scheffler and Burns, Schauffele and Cantlay, JT and Collin, Bryson and Cam Young, and then the dog team of Russell Henley and Harris English.”

Why Europe may need to focus on Bryson DeChambeau at Bethpage

Momentum might be more important than ever in this year’s Ryder Cup. DeChambeau is the kind of player who can help set it early.

DeChambeau’s popularity has grown rapidly over the past few years, and a strong start from him at Bethpage could quickly swing the crowd behind the Americans. On the other hand, if Luke Donald’s side can keep him quiet, it would send a strong message.

There will be questions about whether DeChambeau fits into the foursomes format given his unique style. But he’s certainly someone who could take over a fourball session.

Pairing him with a rookie might actually turn out to be a smart play, giving them some freedom to settle in alongside someone with his presence.
