On Saturday, June 14, Sam Burns entered the third round of the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club with a one-shot lead over playing partner J.J. Spaun.

The two would spar for 18 holes, each taking the lead over the other at various times during the round. At the end of the day, though, Burns maintained his one-shot lead over Spaun after they both carded 1-under, 69s.

“It seemed like we were kind of back and forth,” Spaun said. “He would take the lead, I would take the lead, I would fall back, whatever. But it was fun. You can’t really play against your opponent; you got to play this course. There’s just so much on demand with every shot.”

As he heads into the final round of the U.S. Open with a one-shot lead over Spaun and Adam Scott, Burns was asked about his life with Caroline and their son Bear as Father's Day approached.

"Yeah, I mean it's definitely life-changing for sure," he said when asked about how his life has changed personally and professionally since his son was born. "You know our nights at home and days at home look a lot different now. We were joking with [Scottie and Meredith Scheffler] yesterday afternoon we were out in the yard and the boys had no clothes on, just playing on the splash pad. Having the time of their lives. And we were like, 'what did we do before them?'"

"There's nothing better for me, getting home after a long day and seeing Bear and Caroline and getting to hang out with them. I enjoy it so much and to have a chance to win on Father's Day would be really cool," he added.

Burns enters the final round of the U.S. Open with a one-shot lead and will tee off at 2:15 p.m. ET.
