Scott Burns has been in scintillating form at Oakmont Country Club, carding a near‑perfect 5‑under 65 in Friday’s second round to vault to 3‑under and a one‑stroke lead heading into the weekend of the 125th U.S. Open.

Yet it’s not just his golf game that’s evolved this season. Fatherhood has reshaped Burns both personally and professionally. Speaking at his post‑round press conference on Friday, he reflected on celebrating his second Father’s Day as a dad.

When asked how parenting has changed him, Burns smiled and said, “It's definitely life-changing, for sure. I think our nights at home and days at home look a lot different now."

"We were joking with the Schefflers yesterday afternoon, we were out in the yard, and the boys, no clothes on, just playing in the little splash pad, having the time of their lives...But it's so much fun." Burns continued.

"There's nothing better for me getting home after a long day and seeing Bear and Caroline and getting to hang out with them and just, I enjoy it so much, and to have a chance to win on Father's Day would be really cool.” He added.

Burns and his wife, Caroline, his childhood sweetheart, welcomed their son Bear in 2024, the same year as Scheffler's son Bennett, and he credits parenthood with sharpening his perspective on competition.

Alex Myers, senior writer at Golf Digest, gave further insights into the relationship between Schefflers and Burns.

"Cara Banks just said Scottie Scheffler told her that he and roommate Sam Burns watched the show "Paradise" last night after putting the kids to bed. Guessing Sam will want to keep the same routine Saturday night if he keeps this up." He posted on X.
