As the 2026 PGA Tour season inches closer to the illustrious Masters Tournament, the sport is still lucky to sprinkle in the Texas Children’s Houston Open. The previous winner in Min Woo Lee will be looking to put forth another repeat win, while the field will be missing its top ranked athlete in Scottie Scheffler. Scheffler, who has had a relatively slow season in terms of wins and success, is now welcoming his second child back home. Those eager to watch him tee it up in his home state will have to try again, as he handles a victory off the course this week.
Scheffler and his wife Meredith, now welcome their second child into the world. He has managed to finish tied for second at the Tour’s annual stop at Memorial Park in three of the last four years. While also never missing the cut in his six appearances thus far. The prominent Matt Kuchar, is in the field as his replacement.
The World No. 1 has had a down season to start in comparison to those seen before. With only one season win at The American Express, he has since been met with consecutive slow tournament starts. T-24 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and T-22 at the Players Championship in his two starts during the Florida Swing.
As Scheffler was the betting favorite coming into this Tournament, an expected shift has put things right back in the court for Min Woo Lee. His withdrawal status shows even the top in the sport are still human and life outside the course is always first.
As it currently stands, the Valero Texas Open is the last tournament before The Masters. With no activity from Scheffler this weekend, it can be expected to see him back in competition at the Valero Texas Open. Getting into his swing again will be key to keep up any momentum before the big event comes in April.
With his current sixth place standing in the FedEx Cup Standings, a win in these next two tournaments can go a long way in flipping the season script.
