Scottie Scheffler picked up his sixth PGA Tour win of the season at the Procore Championship, edging closer to another feature in what is becoming a remarkable year.
Scheffler held off Ben Griffin in Napa, showing his composure down the stretch to close out another title.
It was also his first win in California, earning him a $1 million prize and adding yet another trophy to an already crowded shelf.
But as everyone knows by now, money is not what drives Scheffler. His priorities stretch well beyond prize funds and world rankings.
Still, from a fan’s perspective, the financial side cannot be ignored. And with this latest win, he is now within reach of joining Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods on an exclusive list.
Even though it might not carry much personal significance for Scottie Scheffler, there is no ignoring that his sustained success on the PGA Tour is reflected in some huge earnings.
His win at the Procore Championship added another $1 million to his total, leaving him less than $600,000 away from becoming just the third player to reach $100 million in career earnings.
Only Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy have hit that mark so far, and it is only a matter of time before Scheffler joins them.
The world number one is now within $8 million of McIlroy’s total, while Woods remains a bit further ahead at around $21 million more. The fact that he is already in this conversation before turning 30 is remarkable.
If his current form holds, it would not be surprising to see him overtake both players in the next few years. It is just another sign of how dominant he has been lately.
Looking ahead, it feels inevitable that Scottie Scheffler will take over the top spot on this list.
It is important to remember how much prize money has grown in recent years compared to earlier eras. If Tiger Woods had played under today’s financial conditions, he would likely be untouchable at the top.
Player | Prize money earned |
Tiger Woods | $120,999,166 |
Rory McIlroy | $107,981,766 |
Scottie Scheffler | $99,382,766 |
Phil Mickelson | $96,727,968 |
Dustin Johnson | $75,695,066 |
Justin Rose | $73,736,017 |
Jim Furyk | $71,507,269 |
Even so, what Scheffler has accomplished is remarkable. With only nine players ever surpassing $70m in earnings, and the Dallas native closing in on $100m, it puts his run into perspective.
Will he become the first player to reach $200m? Given how things are shaping up, there is every reason to think he will.
