Another week, another tournament in the bag.  The BMW Championship has wrapped up with a few notable moments.  One being Akshay Bhatia’s hole-in-one.  The event ultimately ended with another victory for Scottie Scheffler.  However, during the event, Ted Scott, Scheffler’s usual caddie, was missing.  Instead, Scheffler was paired with Michael Cromie.  After his victory at the BMW Championship, Scheffler is singing Cromie’s praises.

Why Is Scheffler With Cromie

During the St Jude Championship, Ted Scott had to leave due to a family matter.  It is unclear what happened, but Scottie Scheffler has sent his best to the Scott family.  With Scott leaving after the third round, Scheffler needed a stand-in and found one in Brad Payne.  A good friend of Scheffler’s who has filled the role before when Ted Scott was absent in the past.  During the BMW Championship, neither Payne nor Scott was able to return as Scheffler’s caddie, so it ultimately fell upon Michael Cromie’s shoulders.

Cromie Steps In

Cromie is a good friend of Ted Scott and is usually Chris Kirk’s caddie.  He had the experience needed to be a good stand-in.  According to Scheffler, Cromie had some big shoes to fill, yet somehow he managed.  While working together, something clicked between the two, and they became a perfect team.  The two synchronized as if they had been working together for years now.  Scheffler would go on to praise Cromie as a great teammate in his time of need.  Scheffler said in a post-win press conference.

“He’s a guy I can trust,” Scheffler said. “He’s one of Ted’s good buddies. I’d just say it’s pretty much as simple as that. Cromie is a guy that works hard. He does his prep work, and he was an easy guy for me to trust out there.  I felt like we did a good job of talking through our shots and staying patient and keep doing the right things even when things were looking a little bit squirrelly there on the back nine. We did a good job of staying focused and continuing to hit shots at the right targets. Closed the tournament out nicely.”

Scheffler goes on to praise how Cromie kept an “even keel all week.”  Scheffler liked how Cromie was able to handle the pressure.  He didn’t crack once and continued to be a level-headed teammate.  In the end, the two were able to bring home the grand prize of the event together.

Will Michael Cromie Stick Around For Scottie Scheffler?

At the time of writing, Ted Scott is returning to Scheffler’s side for the Tour Championship.  If it comes down to it in the future, Michael Cromie would be a wonderful stand-in if anything happens again.  The two clicked well together during the BMW Championship despite the pairing being temporary.  Now, whenever Scheffler needs a caddie, Cromie seems like such an obvious choice.  After how well the BMW Championship went, Cromie may be on Scheffler’s call list.  For now, though, Scheffler and Ted Scott are preparing for the Tour Championship this week.
