The PGA Tour has returned to Trump International at Doral for the Cadillac Championship this week. Scottie Scheffler is in the field, but everyone wanted to talk to him about Ryder Cup USA picking Jim Furyk as the captain. Furyk was the captain in 2018, when Team USA got smashed by Europe in France. What did Scheffler have to say about the pick?
"Jim is a really, really good leader… He's going to do a great job."

“Jim and Tabitha [Furyk, Jim’s wife] both are really, I mean, they’re great people,” Scheffler began. “Jim is a really, really good leader. He’s extremely organized in the way that he does things, and I think with Jim, you just have so much experience across team events, whether it’s playing or being a captain.”
Scheffler was then asked if he had any input into the Ryder Cup captaincy selection, and if he’d like to have any going forward. “No, I have no input at all. I found out when you did,” he responded. “Would I like to have input? I mean, if they want me to have input, then I can have input.”
Furyk captained Ryder Cup USA to one of the worst losses in the history of the event. They lost 17.5-10.5 at Le Golf National in France, continuing an epic road losing streak for the Americans. Now, he is manning the team in Ireland in 2027, looking to avenge a road loss at Bethpage in 2025.
Scheffler won two major championships in 2025, leading into a high-pressure Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black. He was among the many Americans who did not bring their best game to Long Island in September, and Europe stormed to victory. Furyk was an assistant captain on the squad and should be able to change what was wrong at Bethpage.
The Ryder Cup is over a year away, and Scheffler seems to be in on the captaincy selection.
