Scottie Scheffler's dominance exposing LIV's weakness

Scottie Scheffler heads into the Masters Tournament 2025 this week as one of the favorites to win the tournament. The World No. 1 has won the last two Masters Tournaments and will be hoping to seal a third straight title ahead of the likes of Rory McIlroy, who is looking to complete his career Grand Slam.

The 28-year-old has been in scintillating form and has won seven times on tour in a single season — the last person to achieve this feat was Tiger Woods in 2007. While the American has continued to make headlines, there has been plenty of debate about his dominance and how it exposes LIV’s weakness.

LIV Weakness Exposed By Brilliant Scheffler

Despite Scheffler’s impressive performances, many have argued that his dominance can be attributed to the absence of top LIV golfers in the PGA Tour. The likes of Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm and Brooks Koepka, who have all defected to LIV Golf, are seen as significant losses for the PGA Tour. Their absence has led many to wonder if Scheffler’s wins would have been as easy to come by if these top golfers were still competing on the PGA Tour.

However, Scheffler’s dominance isn’t as a result of the absence of the LIV stars in the PGA. Instead, his dominance exposes LIV’s weakness. For instance, 12 LIV Golf players will compete in this week’s Masters, the first major of the 2025 golf season. Although seven of those players are past champions at Augusta National, none of them are favorites to win the Masters ahead of Scottie Scheffler or even Rory McIlroy.

While LIV Golf has recruited some big-name players, Scheffler’s continued dominance shows that LIV has not been able to establish itself as a formidable competitor to the PGA Tour. In an exhibition match last December, Scheffler and McIlroy, representing the PGA Tour, defeated Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka, who are part of LIV Golf.

In addition, the PGA Tour is widely regarded as more competitive than LIV Golf, which allows Scheffler to continue to compete at the highest level. However, LIV Golf focuses on big paydays and a more relaxed format that many believe has led to a decline in the tour’s level of competition

Scheffler Aiming For Further Masters Dominance

Scheffler will be hoping to become the first golfer to win back-to-back at Augusta National since Tiger Woods achieved the feat 23 years ago. The 28-year-old has never finished outside the top 20 at the Masters.

The American ranks No. 1 in greens in regulation, strokes gained approach and strokes gained tee to green over the last three Masters. Scheffler has a knack for performing at the Masters and his dominance can be expected to continue when the best golfers in the world go head-to-head at the Augusta National this week.
