Sergio Garcia has very long odds to win the U.S. Open. Is he worth a sprinkle?

Sergio Garcia has stolen the spotlight in the golf world once again, and for the first time in a long time, it's for his actual golf game.

The 2017 Masters champion and LIV Golf defector was triumphant at the U.S. Open qualifiers in Dallas last weekend, punching his ticket to the major event at Los Angeles Country Club next month. Before you go putting your money on the Spaniard to take the field by storm, you should probably see where he stands with oddsmakers.

While there is plenty of pomp and circumstance surrounding his entry into the field, the 43-year-old pro is currently listed as a 130-1 long shot to win the 2023 U.S. Open, according to DraftKings. The long odds could be partially due to the fact that Garcia has only one major win on his resume. It could also be that he missed the cut at this year's Masters or the fact that his best U.S. Open finish was a tied for third all the way back in 2005.

It could also be that Garcia hasn't been particularly dominant in LIV Golf, either. The Ryder Cup aficionado's best individual finish on the rogue circuit was a fourth-place finish at LIV Golf Chicago last year. When his team, Fireballs GC, placed first at LIV Golf Bangkok last year, Garcia finished 21st in the field.

Suffice it to say, Garcia's recent body of work is what puts him far from the shortest odds to win the U.S. Open. That honor currently belongs to Scottie Scheffler, whom DK has listed as the 17-2 favorite. Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy follow on the list at 9-1 and 10-1 odds, respectfully, and PGA Championship winner Brooks Koepka is the LIV Golf pro with the shortest odds at 14-1.
